Facility managers learn acoustic failure the hard way. A board session runs next to a sales training. Voices travel. Someone jokes about it in the corridor. After that, nobody trusts the “flexible meeting floor” again—even if the furniture still looks new.

What actually blocks sound (and what does not)

Thickness helps, but seals decide whether the rating shows up on site. Multi-layer cores matter. So do top and bottom compression seals, vertical joints between panels, and a frame that does not drift after a year of use. A 6063-T6 aluminum frame is common in durable commercial systems for a reason—alignment stays predictable if installation was honest.

Published ranges for solid systems often sit somewhere between roughly 28 and 60 dB depending on construction. Treat those numbers as a starting point. On-site result also depends on flanking paths through ceilings, ducts, and doors you forgot to mention in the drawing.

Room type → series (our usual advice)

Small meeting and training rooms: 65 mm is frequently enough and kinder to daily staff operation. Medium conference suites: 85 mm tends to balance cost and privacy. Large halls or VIP rooms with sensitive content: 100 mm is where we start the conversation, especially with taller openings.

Curved or L-shaped layouts are doable, but only if architecture and track design talk to each other early. Retrofitting a curve into a straight-track mindset is painful.

Details conference teams forget until week two

Stacking pockets that eat circulation. Lighting and HVAC zones that ignore the divisible layout. No pass door, so people crack a panel edge to sneak through and wreck the seal. Finishes that match the brand deck but get swapped for a cheaper board at the last minute and somehow “still look the same” in photos—until the client walks in.

Ceiling-track systems without floor grooves remain popular because cleaning and accessibility are easier, and panels can be reused when the campus layout changes again in three years. Drywall rebuilds do not offer that kindness.
